Chapter 3! WOOHH :D I'm ok with this chapter I guess, anything haha :D
Chapter 3
Early into the next morning, Josh was woken up by a loud crash in the living room. Thinking that it was a burglar, he grabbed his metallic baseball bat that rested at the side of his bed and slowly made his way cautiously down the stairs.
“What the… Zac!?”
Sprawled on the floor was Zac, drunk and unconscious. He had passed out when he walked through the door, fallen to the floor and in the process, knocked the porcelain table lamp over. Josh shook his head in disgust. He hated when Zac went partying with his friends.
Josh propped Zac against the couch, and cleaned him up, before settling him down on the sofa. He placed a glass of water, along with a box of aspirin on the coffee table. If he didn’t take care of Zac, who would? Zac was kicked out of their parents’ house when he turned 18. It was a cruel Farro house rule - Independent at 18. But it did not apply for the only girl of their family, Isabelle Farro.
Josh washed up, and decided to go shopping for a new table lamp later that day. He poured out a bowl of his favourite cereal and began to munch on it slowly. He made a mental note to buy more of the heavenly cereal when he went grocery shopping after he bought his new lamp. Josh wrote a note on a post-it, and was about to stick it to Zac’s head. Instead, he placed it next to the box of aspirin, knowing the chance of Zac noticing the note was very, very slim. He exited their apartment and made his way to his car.

Josh roamed around his favourite furniture shop, where he had gotten his entire apartment from. It was unusually crowded today, and Josh was one of the few men there. What kind of man goes shopping, huh? But he didn’t care, he needed the lamp. It somehow gave him inspiration to write songs for Far Away, since Zac or the other members were no lyricists.
When he was about to exit the store, a particular lamp caught his eye, and he made his way over to it. It was of a rectangular shape and was coloured in a bright, pleasant orange. He caught the attention of a sales girl and was prepared to buy it. Josh stood at the cash register as the cashier began to wrap and pack his new lamp. He began to text Zac, to see if he was awake and well.
“Hi, I’d like to buy the same lamp that he’s buying”
“I’m sorry, miss, that’s the last one we’ve got in stock”
Josh looked up from his phone, and looked around for the owner of that voice. It sounded vaguely familiar to him. He spotted a petite girl with vibrant, bright orange hair, dressed in an oversized black jacket and skinny jeans. He studied her flawless features intently. Why did he feel like he knew her?
Feeling someone’s gaze on her, the girl turned to see Josh staring, rather fiercely at her. She cocked her head to the side in amusement when she saw the blush rise to his cheeks after she’d caught him staring. Then their eyes locked, and time seemed to slow down. Her green eyes melted into his chocolate coloured ones and memories of those same green eyes appeared continuously in Josh’s head.
It was Hayley.
She had dyed her hair orange, which was her favourite colour, from the dark auburn that it once was. Not to mention, she had wanted to buy an orange lamp. She had cocked her head to her side, which was her trademark action that she used whenever she was amused and or confused.
But it was her mesmerising emerald eyes that gave her away.
Of course, Josh wasn’t too sure whether it really was Hayley. He had been through those situations where he thought he saw her, and ended up making a fool of himself when he ran up to a total stranger, attempting to embrace them. He had a few battle scars from when those strangers either slapped his face, or abused him with their purses. Therefore, Josh decided to converse with her, just to make sure.
