Paperthin Hymn
One-shot
“Josh! Dude, where’re you going man? We’ve got meet and greet in an hour!” Taylor yelled out of the bus, in the direction of the slowly disappearing figure of Josh Farro.
When his best friend simply ignored him, Taylor felt a twinge of hurt in his chest at the rejection he had just received, but shrugged it off as he went to get ready for the New York meet and greet.
It had been that way for majority of their latest tour: Hayley practically glued to Jeremy’s side, Zac and Taylor were like typical teenage BFFs, while Josh simply went on his own. He would miss out on their lunch outings and band meetings to be by himself. Be it taking a walk around the venue or just taking a stroll around the city that they stopped in, he was alone. During meet and greets, he was distant and usually stood by himself until a fan came by, only then did he attempt to make awkward chit-chat. Other times, he failed to even show up, and fans were disappointed to meet only four members of their favourite band.
While most of the other band members and crew were worried about him, they left him alone to his thoughts. Even Zac couldn’t get him to open up, as Josh normally kept his emotions under lock and key – with the occasional song being written, where he poured everything out – but no song was currently in production, and they were confused by his behaviour.
“Is he coming?” asked Hayley as she put on her makeup in the mirror. Taylor shrugged and went on his way, while she sighed in reply.
Despite them not being the best of friends as before, he was still one of her closest friends. When she realized how much their relationship had faltered during the past few months, she was in distress. What would she be without Josh? He was somewhat of her muse, after Chad, of course. She was afraid of him now. The Josh Farro from when Paramore had first started was gone, she hoped not forever, but it was obvious that he wasn’t coming back for a while.
The fun Josh, the caring and loving Josh, the Josh that was hers had died, and now what remained of him was a scarred and emotionally distressed ghost of him. The ghost left destruction and confusion in his wake, unintentionally hurting those that loved him the most, and no one knew why they were being snapped at. Even Hayley was kept in the dark, and it hurt that Josh didn’t trust her enough to tell her.
Hayley applied the last of her mascara and took off from the bus, in pursuit of Josh. He wasn’t going to miss another meet and greet. Not on her watch.
Although she figured he must have been rather far from the bus by then, she managed to catch the obvious pattern of his favourite hoodie and his form rounding the corner of a building in the distance. She quickly gave chase and stayed closely behind his walking form when she finally caught up with him. She decided to keep silent by his side, and if he had noticed her presence, he did not show it.
While they walked in awkward silence for at least 10 minutes, Hayley found that staring at her converse shoes was the best way to ease the uneasy feeling churning in the pit of her stomach. This probably was one of the most uncomfortable moments she had ever been in with Josh, excluding their breakup. She jerked her head up when she saw that they had stepped onto a grass patch. Her jaw dropped in astonishment as multicoloured flowers flooded into view. It was one of the most beautiful parks she had ever seen in her life. It was more beautiful than her favourite park in Franklin – coming from her, a loyal Franklin-nite, that was probably one of the best compliments she could ever give to a town that wasn’t her home. Situated at one corner of the park, was a quaint little playground, which Josh immediately headed towards, quickening his pace with every few steps.
Hayley smirked as she realized how, somewhere deep within, Josh was still the goofy thirteen year old boy that was her best friend. They sat themselves on the wooden swings as their minds wandered into space for a good period of time.
“I’m sorry…” It was barely considered a whisper, but they were the first words spoken between them since they embarked on their journey from the bus.
“Don’t be” Hayley replied gently, afraid that if she had said it any louder, the moment between them would shatter.
Josh put his fingers to the bridge of his nose and let out a deep sigh. He shook his head before continuing.
“No, you don’t understand. Hayley, I just can’t take it anymore. The long months of touring, the fame, the fact that we have to play the same old thing over and over again and honestly, I don’t know if I can hold up any longer. I constantly tell myself, ‘
It’s just another night, Josh, you can get through it’, but I can’t… ”
He brushed the unshed tears from his chocolate brown eyes before they threatened to spill from his eyelids. Hayley couldn’t help but feel her eyes water as she saw the pained expression on his face, the desperate look in his eyes; a look of anguish and agony.
Hayley rose from her cross-legged perch on the swing and enveloped her best friend in a hug, the biggest hug she could manage, considering the size that she was. She stroked his hair in a comforting gesture as he began to let out violent sobs over her shoulder.
Hayley rocked her best friend back and forth as they sat on the dry blades of grass from the playground and began to hum a song. She began to sing
their song as she placed a soft kiss on his forehead.
They're playing our song
They're playing our song
Can you see the lights?
Can you hear the hum?
Of our song
I hope they get it right
I hope we dance tonight
Before we, get it wrong
And the seasons
Will change us new
Be the best I've known
and you know me
I could not be stuck on you
If it were true
I was sleeping
My eyes were dark
Til you woke me
And told me that opening
is just the start
it was
Now I see you, til kingdom come
You're the one I want
To see me for all the stupid shit I've done
Soil and six feet under
Killed just like we were
Before you knew you'd know me
And you know me
Blooming up from the ground
3 Rounds and a sound
Like whispering you know me
And you know me
So this was our song
This was our song
I still see the lights
I can see them
And the criss cross
Of what is true, won't get to us
Cause you know me
I could not give up on you
And the fog of what is right
Won't cover us cause you know me
I could not give up a fight
Soil and six feet under
Killed just like we were
Before you knew you'd know me
And you know me________

I Like Where We Are [OneShot]
:D
I FEEL THE NEED TO WRITE, SINCE I DIDN'T WRITE FOR TWO WHOLE MONTHS.
_________
He drove his cab through the streets of Franklin, Tennessee. No, he wasn’t really a cab driver. He was helping his dad work today, because his dad was ill and was in no condition to drive. He was a young guy, of age 22, and he was a small town musician whose career never really took off. He was an overall nice guy, but he was too shy for his own good. He never got dates and the only parties he ever went to were those that his brother had dragged him to.
This young man’s name was Joshua Farro. He had deep chocolate brown eyes, short spiky hair and a rather handsome face. Not a typical person you’d find driving a cab, but well, he was driving one.
Josh scanned the streets for any outstretched hands that signalled for him to stop for them. It had been a very slow Saturday morning and no one seemed to need a cab, so he pulled his cab over outside of the Franklin theatre. The Franklin theatre was Josh’s haven ever since he was a little boy. He remembered the countless times he had used the theatre as an icebox on hot days, or the days where Michael Tanner, the school bully, had chased him into the theatre, only to be met with a dark cinema full of people – and Josh hidden between the seats.
However, the theatre was about to be demolished soon and all the teens and adults in Franklin despised the mayor for giving the “ok” to destroy one of their most treasured historical landmarks. They had tried to petition, to no avail. Josh vowed to watch a movie everyday until it closed, even if it meant watching the same movie over and over again.
Josh relaxed into his seat and rested his head back against the door. He inserted his favourite rock CD and closed his eyes while he listened to the melodies of Sunny Day Real Estate. Soon, Josh was head banging to the music and singing rather loudly, completely oblivious to his surroundings and obviously did not notice the figure standing next to his cab. When he finally did, he practically propelled himself from the driver’s seat, narrowly missing the windscreen and hitting his head on the roof of his cab. His head howled in pain, and his throat allowed the scream to be vocalized.
“Hi, is your cab of service?” He heard a sweet voice ask. He looked into the mirror and found a pair of stunning green eyes looking at him. He nodded, half dazed, feeling the pain in his head fade away as if her eyes could douse his pain. His eyes broke away from hers and he felt the blood rush straight to his cheeks from being caught in such an embarrassing situation.
Nice one, Josh! You made a total fool out of yourself back there… Keep it cool, man.
The girl clambered into the yellow cab and rested her belongings on the seat next to hers with a hint of a smile playing on her lips.
“Where can I take you?”
“Hmmm… Surprise me!”
“Pardon…?”
“Well, I’m here on vacation, and I somehow ended up at the Franklin theatre, I think I told a cab driver to bring me to the local movie theatre. Well, this doesn’t look like the theatres we have in Mississipi! Would you mind giving me a tour of your town?”
Josh finally took a good look at the girl. She had vibrant red hair, a huge number of freckles and was short – very short. Regardless, she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He felt shallow for thinking that, but he knew it was the truth. He mentally slapped himself for staring at her much longer than he should have. Blood rushed to his cheeks yet again as he started up his cab.
He decided to take her to the many scenic places found in Franklin. She introduced herself as Hayley Williams, and she hailed from Meridian, Mississippi. It turned out that she was just a year younger than Josh and she was trying to pursue a career in art. Like Josh, she was unsuccessful in her field, and was now trying to gain inspiration by travelling.
Hours were spent in the cab while Josh drove her to many of the popular and scenic places, in downtown Franklin, and the outskirts of the sleepy town. As a result, the pair shared their life stories with each other, like two old friends catching up.
“So how long are you gonna be in Franklin for?”
Hayley pouted and directed her eyes to the sky – a sign that she was thinking, Josh realised, having observed her throughout their time together.
“A few days, I wanna make sure I see what there is to see before I move to the next town”
They were now leaning against the railing of a road that winded around a mountain and were overlooking the town from above. Josh nodded his head, and shut his eyes, feeling the evening breeze kiss his skin softly. Despite knowing each other for only a few hours, Josh felt like he’d known her all his life. He liked Hayley, a lot.
“I like you too”
His eyes snapped open to face Hayley’s grinning face. Did he subconsciously say that he liked her, out loud? Once again, Josh Farro abused himself on the inside. His inner voice screamed and punched his guts. No, he was wrong; those were the butterflies that were attacking his stomach. His inner self was forcing his lips into a toothy grin, and his inner voice screamed, “KISS HER!”
And that’s just what he did.
